In her address to the National Legislature and people of Liberia earlier this week, President Sirleaf took the time to welcome the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s “recommendations regarding the Liberian Diaspora, which appear to be feasible and do not infringe on any constitutional right of the individual:
“That Liberians, their relatives and offspring who migrated to foreign parts on account of the civil crisis or who migrated to foreign parts prior to the civil war but remained in foreign parts on account of the civil crisis and…had to acquire foreign nationalities, benefit from…their foreign nationalities without forfeiting their Liberian citizenship.”

‘Work ethics’ delay applications at Home Affairs

Delayed service provision is service denied, or so suggests those that have had to deal with the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration.
The Legal Assistance Centre (LAC) this week enjoyed a minor victory when the High Court ordered the expeditious consideration of an application for citizenship for Burundian Jean-Bosco Nzitunga that has been outstanding since 2006.
However, said LAC's director, Norman Tjombe, there are still numerous applications for citizenship not yet considered or responded to, which resultantly hold serious implications for the lives of the applicants.

Gambia News: The Gambia exempts Senegalese citizens from alien tax

The Gambian government has decided to waive the obligation of the payment of alien tax for Senegalese nationals residing in the country, APA learns here Thursday.
The announcement was made on Wednesday night in Dakar after a two- day friendship and working visit President Abdoulaye Wade of Senegal made to The Gambia on 5 and 6 January.
Senegalese nationals are estimated by some sources at over 300, 000 in this country nestled in the heart of Senegalese territory.
